ALONSO EQUALS ROSSI WITH ELEVENTH VICTORY OF THE YEAR AT AUSTRALIAN GP

21/10/2024

CFMOTO Aspar Team rider David Alonso continues to make history in the Moto3 class, securing his eleventh victory of the season at the Australian GP and equalling Valentino Rossi's long-standing record of wins in the lightweight class. In a thrilling race at Phillip Island, Alonso executed a remarkable comeback, starting from tenth on the grid and charging his way to his fourth consecutive win.

Despite the challenging starting position, Alonso wasted no time in making his presence felt. Within just two laps, he had climbed to fourth place, slotting himself into the leading group of thirteen riders. The battle at the front was intense, with frequent position changes as the group fought hard for the lead. However, Alonso had a decisive moment with five laps to go, overtaking Adrián Fernández to take the top spot. From there, he never looked back, gradually building a gap to cross the finish line with a commanding three-second lead. Dani Holgado and Adrián Fernández completed the podium behind the world champion.

In a celebratory nod to MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, Alonso donned a bandage around his head – emulating Rossi’s iconic victory celebration from the 1997 Indonesian GP, where he set the record for most wins in a season in the lightweight category.

CFMOTO Aspar Team’s Joel Esteban also put in a strong showing at Phillip Island. Starting from 21st on the grid, Esteban climbed to 17th by the end of the first lap and fought hard throughout the race. Engaged in a tight battle with Xabi Zurutuza, Esteban narrowly missed out on a points finish, crossing the line in 16th. He now looks ahead to the upcoming Thai GP, where he’ll aim to add to his points tally.

In Moto2, the Australian GP proved challenging for the CFMOTO Aspar Team. Izan Guevara, starting from 17th, struggled to find his rhythm in the early laps, dropping to 20th. However, he battled back to finish just outside the points in 16th place. Meanwhile, Jake Dixon’s race ended early after a crash on the second corner following an incident with another rider. Both Guevara and Dixon will aim for a stronger result at next week’s Thai GP.

CFMOTO Australia celebrates the ongoing success of the CFMOTO Aspar Team and eagerly anticipates more thrilling performances in the coming races. Stay tuned for more updates from the world of MotoGP!
